My motto is "color inspires joy" because I know first-hand the power color has to spark joy worldwide. In every community I've been a part of, color has been a source of expression and is often present in positive, collective experiences such as parties, festivals and celebrations.

Later on in life, I became a social worker and experienced the healing power of color through working with clients using arts-based activities in therapeutic settings. Clients loved getting to play with colors and be creative, this was often a turning point in our work together. These experiences cemented my belief that color can be used to spark joy - a critical element in healing work.

For these reasons, beautiful, creative use of color is my primary approach to joyful surface pattern design.

Generally speaking, two ways;

The first is by starting with an original painting and digitally editing pieces of it into a cohesive pattern. I find these designs offer a sense of authenticity that folks gravitate towards, especially fans of my work at Colorata Studio!

The second is through digital illustration, often abstract initially, then redesigned into a workable pattern. These designs tend to come off as youthful, fun and welcoming, resonating with a wide variety of audiences.
